“This Land Is Your Land” è il nome del mio nuovo progetto fotografico, dedicato alla Sicilia. Ma è anche il titolo della celebre canzone di quel gran poeta che era Woody Guthrie. Sarà un viaggio fatto di panorami e di storie diverse, il cui comun denominatore è il territorio inteso come risorsa.

Me ne andrò in giro a cercare di raccontare la gente coraggiosa che ha deciso di ricominciare a coltivare la terra in maniera nuova, ma anche il modo nel quale la terra è stata abbandonata o peggio maltrattata nel nome di un progresso industriale che in quest’isola non è mai realmente arrivato.

Ho deciso di farlo in Bianco e nero, solo con la mia Nikon a pellicola, di qualche anno più vecchia di me, e un obiettivo 35mm. Per non complicarmi troppo la vita e perché sono gli strumenti che ancora amo di più.

Ho iniziato a raccontare la storia di alcuni incredibili ragazzi che stanno mettendo in piedi diversi progetti legati all’agricoltura, uno dei quali si chiama Adotta un orto. Sul mio sito la gallery con le foto e anche un video con le interviste:

La Sicilia non è l’America di Woody Guthrie, ma siccome certe cose valgono dappertutto vorrei chiudere questo post con un pezzo di This Land Is Your Land:

“This Land Is Your Land” is the name of my new photographic project about Sicily and, of course, is the name of the famous song written by a great poet, the songwriter  Woody Guthrie. This long term  project will be a trip made by landscape and stories with a lowest common denominator: territory  as resource.

I’ll try to tell the courageous people  who decided to restart to cultivate the land in a new way, as well as  the way in which the Sicilian land was abandoned or  was abused in the name of an  industrial development that never really arrived in this land.

I decided to shot black and white film whit my old Nikon, some year older than me, and a 35mm lens. To make it simple and because these are the instruments that I love the most.

I started telling the story of tree incredible guys who started to cultivated the land with some project. One is called “rent a Garden”. You can see the gallery and the video with the interviews  on my website here:

Sicily is not Woody Guthrie’s America, but certain things are true wherever, so I want to end this post with some phrase of his song:
